VILLAGE HEAD
Almost every second village administrator in Poland is female, and only 12% of village heads, mayors and presidents are women – why?
Rebellious towards everyday routine, they expand their kitchens. By adding another chair to the table, they carefully create a community based on allyships. The view from their own window, lets them notice the diversity and complexity of the world. Thanks to female village administrators this play becomes a herstory about agency, but also some kind of defiance exercise… You don’t have to be a head of the village to make this story about You. We met three female village administrators to create a story from their experiences. We portray women who face difficult challenges, not only the problems of the Polish countryside, but also those of functioning in the still male-dominated world of politics. We go back to the past, for instance to a moment when a first Polish woman stood in a parliament election. It was Maria Dulębianka in 1908, a decade before Polish women were granted voting rights. We create a world of people and things that is empathetic and inclusive, as well as is raising the difficulties of everyday functioning of female village administrators. We research the borders and connections between theatre, performance, documentary, visual arts, and simply a meeting.
