SzczODRA is a series of actions that lead to discovering inconclusive relations with the river which is seemingly written into Szczecin’s identity, and has been flowing in a separate, yet not its own stream for years, remaining out of the everyday, urban’ consciousness. Trying to define this state, we’ll look into threats, changes, bundance, and the peculiar potential of the city-river neighborhood.
According to a dictionary definition ‘szczodra’ (generous) is ‘the one that bestows liberally’. Starting points in our considerations are matters of potential that lays in this abundance, but also borders/differences between a gift and exploitation, favoritism and protectionism, subjective and subject in the context of being a neighbor to the river and other living organisms.
Together with researchers, ecological organizations, and activists, we realize a series of meetings, actions, installations, performances usually embedded in places where both river and city can be seen from different, sometimes surprising side. Reversing the perspective (also in a spatial sense) is an important part of our work.
